Bus Ridership Increased Forty Percent on Election Day
November 4, 2020
OMAHA, Neb – Metro Transit saw bus ridership increase almost forty percent during its Bus to Ballot initiative Tuesday. Bus and MOBY paratransit services were fare-free for Election Day to help ensure that transportation was not a barrier to vote.
“We were happy to see our community taking transit to get to their polling places and pleased to have an opportunity to support the democratic process,” said Metro’s CEO, Lauren Cencic.
Metro provided 8,200 bus rides on Election Day, and saw a fifteen percent increase in MOBY paratransit trips.
This year marks Metro’s second “Bus to Ballot” initiative, following free rides for the 2016 election.
