Metro to increase weekend service and frequency on key bus routes, advancing MetroNEXT
April 2, 2023
OMAHA, Neb. – To better serve the community and move service forward, Metro will increase and/or restore service on seven key routes. Starting Sunday, April 16, these routes will operate with increased frequency, extended evening service, or both. These changes will happen during different days of the week, depending on the route, but one of the most significant changes riders will notice is buses coming more often on Sundays on a quarter of our routes.
Some of the biggest changes riders will experience are:
- Routes 3, 4, 24, and 30: 30-minute daytime frequency and later evening service on Sundays
- Route 13: Restored 15-minute and 30-minute rush hour frequency on weekdays; 30-minute daytime frequency and later evening service on Sundays
- Route 15: 15-minute daytime frequency on weekdays; 30-minute daytime frequency and later evening service on Sundays
These changes are the next step in implementing Metro’s long-term strategic plan, MetroNEXT. This comes in response to growing ridership on the weekends and the changing travel patterns of riders.
“The feedback we’re getting shows our riders have a strong need for increased service,” said Metro CEO Lauren Cencic. “We are thrilled to improve how often and how late buses run, significantly enhancing travel options for our riders.”
The MetroNEXT plan, adopted by the Metro Board of Directors in April of 2022, is being used to guide transit investments and priorities to 2030 for the Omaha area. The plan, built on extensive analysis and community input, outlines some main projects the agency is working to implement by 2030, including returning most routes to pre-COVID schedules; expanding evening and weekend service; and improving frequency on Metro’s core routes.
Complete schedules will be available on Metro’s website (https://www.ometro.com) and at Metro’s office on April 10. More information about MetroNEXT and Metro’s plan for the future of transit can be found at www.ometro.com/MetroNEXT.
