Nebraska Public Transit Week April 7-13, 2019
March 31, 2019
Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring April 7-13, 2019 as Public Transit Week in the State of Nebraska. This was reaffirmed with a resolution by the Metro Board of Directors.
Transit has served the cities of Omaha and Council Bluffs for more than 150 years, dating back as far as 1867. Metro’s fixed route and paratransit services operate more than 4,000,000 miles annually, connecting members of our community to the people and places that matter most.
Metro will be celebrating riders during Nebraska Public Transit Week by offering surprise ticket giveaways and free fare periods during the week. Lucky riders boarding during these 30 minute periods will ride for free on all routes! These free fare periods will be randomly selected and announced onboard the buses. On Wednesday, April 10th, anyone that rides a bike to a stop will get a free trip. Riders can load their bike into the racks on the front of the bus and they will both ride free!
Additionally, we’re providing a variety of employee appreciation events this week, and encourage customers to thank employees for their role in providing transit service in the Omaha area. Riders can download a Thank-You Card to give to their bus or MOBY driver.
Public transportation plays an important role in making our state strong and prosperous by providing vital connections for citizens. Thousands of people rely on transit each day to connect them to work, school, medical appointments, and a variety of other destinations that contribute to the economic vitality and quality of life in our state.
